A goal is an objective the session keeps working toward on its own. While it is active, each time an exchange ends Hum starts the next one itself, so you can set a goal and walk away. It ends when the model marks it complete, after proving every requirement against the workspace, or blocked, after the same blocker has held for three exchanges in a row. Hum also stops it on its own: three exchanges that produce no working tool result mark it blocked, a spent credit balance marks it usage limited, and an error the model cannot fix marks it blocked. /goal resume picks a paused, blocked or usage-limited goal up again; /goal <objective> replaces the goal there is.
The objective rides every prompt, survives compaction and resume, and shows on the status line as ◎ goal active. When nobody is attached and a goal stops, the OS is told, and hum agents says which session needs you. The model reads the goal with get_goal and marks it with update_goal; it cannot pause, resume or clear it.

read_file reads PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint as text. PDFs page by page, workbooks by tab. Scanned pages go to the model as images on a model that reads them.
